Metro Birmingham Hispanic community leader Isabel Rubio honored by FBI

The FBI office in Birmingham today awarded this year’s FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award to Isabel Rubio, executive director of HICA.

Special Agent in charge Carmen Adams said the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama deserved the recognition because the organization has made an “exemplary impact on the community.” HICA was the first organization in Alabama to serve the needs of immigrant Hispanic community, Adams said.

  HICA’s 24-hour hot-line gives directs immigrants to needed services and its court advocacy services “is a true resources to area law enforcement,” Adams said.

Adams said Rubio’s work will be recognized in Washington when she receives an additional award from FBI Director Robert Mueller.

“I’m so honored to receive this award,” Rubio said. “It’s incredible that we would receive this for the work we do every day.”
